Lettered pony report input document by both Municipality Utrecht and Tumult Over the last years the city of Utrecht has been steadily working on its transformation from a dormant gem into a statuesque beauty. Or, at least, that is if we believe Richard Florida and his latest theory on ‘who is your city?’. Utrecht promotes itself as a medieval city, with a young, creative and cultural atmosphere. Somehow the tags 'personal' and 'dreamer' also show up on the PR website. Having said all this, the question remains: how do you perceive and judge Utrecht? What are the positive sides of living in this town as an expat? And what almost makes you want to run away again? On this evening, Utrecht, represented by council members, companies and educational institutions, invites you to speak out on the town you are living in. In the cultured setting of the Tumult room, our moderator for the evening, Patrick van der Hijden, invites you to debate with the city’s branding manager and other Utrecht decision makers. 8.00 – 9.00 pm: Introduction What does Utrecht wish to achieve with this “internationalisation”. And what are the benefits for Utrecht? Contributions of Floris de Gelder, Alderman City Promotion (Stadspromotie), Menno de la Vienne, Utrecht Investment Agency and Jeroen Toorenbeek, Utrecht University. 9.00 – 9.45 pm: Plenary debate What are foreign students and expats looking for in Utrecht (city of knowledge and culture) and what do they find? What does the city have to offer them during their stay in Utrecht? What other things should Utrecht focus on? Contributions of knowledge workers, expats and foreign students. 9.45 – 10.10 pm: ‘Lessons learned’ and conclusions Also with DJ DNA (former Urban Dance Squad, now Stuurbaard Bakkebaard).
