Ingezonden Dr. Ragbir Bhatal werkzaam aan de Universiteit Western Sydney Australia gaat op zondag 10 juli 2011 tijdens zijn lezing bij Sonnenborgh in op de fascinerende aspecten van de relatie tussen de Aboriginals en astronomie. Onze melkweg wordt door de Aboriginals gezien als een grote rivier aan de hemel. Dr. Ragbir Bhathal, astrofysicus aan de universiteit van Western Sydney, leidt het Australische nationale onderzoeksproject naar Aboriginal Astronomy. Hij vertelt over de fascinerende aspecten van de relatie tussen de Aboriginals, die al gedurende 40.000 jaar de nachtelijke hemel waarnemen, en astronomie. De lezing over Aboriginal Astronomy wordt in samenwerking met het Aboriginal Art Museum Utrecht en Sonnenborgh – Museum & Sterrenwacht georganiseerd. De lezing is Engelstalig. The Australian continent covers a huge area of land mass that stretches approximately 3,800 km in the north-south direction and 4,000 km in the east-west direction. It lies directly under the centre of the magnificent Milky Way galaxy with its billions of stars which to the Aboriginal people of Australia is a huge river in the sky where their ancestral spirits live. Dr Ragbir Bhathal is an award winning author and astrophysicist who carries out research in astrophysics, physics education and Aboriginal astronomy at the University of Western Sydney in Australia.
